The standard of beauty differs around the world, here are the 5 weird and extreme culture trends from some isolated groups and tribes from around the world, these people have strange rituals and traditions which is shocking and extreme compared to the  style we are used to. For them, Its their culture and they act accordingly, these traditions may seem weird but its vital that we try to understand and not judge as there is beauty in diversity.

1.EXPANDED/STRETCHED LIPS (MURSI TRIBE OF SOUTH ETHIOPIA)

This beauty/culture pattern is rather strange for me and quiet extreme, I personally can’t get myself to look at the pictures of these women, as I imagine how painful this process must be. This tradition is for the Mursi women of Southern Ethiopia, only women wear these rather bizarre accessory. The Mursi woman at age 13 start the process of getting their lower lips stretched. The mursi tribe girls pierce their lower lips so that a clay plate can be inserted, in most cases their lower teeth are removed to enhance the stretch. it’s claimed that the bigger the lip plate, the more attractive their men see the women,The larger the lip plate she can tolerate, the more cattle her bride price will bring for her father. The women have the right to choose the extent to which their lips can be stretched, married women also put food on the plate when serving their husband, it is an important wedding ritual. Weird huh? I thought so too.

2. THE FACE TATTOO( THE MAORI TRIBE).

This face tattooing is a permanent body face marking by Maori indigenes of New Zealand. The skin are carved by uhi, the marks are mostly spiral and drawn with even elegance. The tattooists are considered sacred and exceptionally inviolable. The tattoos can cover the whole face and can also be on chin alone, the designs and placement vary according to family history, influence or wealth, the designs contains a lot of messages but only weaver can read them. Moko is said to be about the glamour and beauty, it is done for both male and female indegenes. These facial designs are unique and you can never find two which are exactly same.

3. SCARIFICATION (KARO TRIBE IN ETHIOPIA).

scarification

This is a popular tradition in the world and many cultures carry it out starting from  the western pacific, parts of Africa and Southern America, though each tribe has its different reason and purpose for this act. In Karo tribe of Ethiopia it is a major tradition and it is drawn on the body of both men and women, for the men this scarification is done to show the killing of enemies and rivals from other tribes, for the women this scarification culture is done solely because they believe it’s arousing and fascinating. This is a process where by the skin is cut with sharp objects(usually a kind of blade or knife), its done in a way so the scar can be controlled to create a given design, after the flesh is scared a plant juice is rubbed on it, it causes a kind of infection that causes the scar to be dark when it heals. This scars look most times like work of art on the skin of those its crafted on.This is another weird and extreme culture in my opinion.

4. YAPING HULLO NOSE PLUGS(INDIAN TRIBE).

This culture called yaping hullo is more like a piercing but strips of bamboo are placed to cause a sort of enlargement on the nose, when the nose is enlarged enough then nose plugs can be inserted. Nose plugs are a part of their roots tho the modern age women of Indian Apatani tribe do not practice this anymore but you can still see this on the older women, guess they realized what a weird and extreme culture it is.  It is said that this tradition or culture was done in order to make the women less desirable to men that are from other tribes. This another weird way of tying a woman down in my opinion

5.LOTUS FEET(CHINA).

The standard for beauty was quiet different for the Chinese bride, it was also painful too during the 10th century, the Chinese bride must have a 3-inch foot and this is known as the golden lotus or a silver lotus which is the 4-inch foot in order for her to be attractive for her groom, anything beyond 5-inches was considered as an iron lotus and said to be ugly. At the age of five, girl’s feet were bound tightly wrapping them with cotton strips. The wrappings were pulled as tightly as possible and this prevented the feet growing. After the whole procedure, the feet were unable to get their regular shape The possibility of a Chinese female to be married depends solely on the length of her foot. It was believed that a girl would bond feet would be more submissive to her husband and this would make her a good wife. This weird tradition led to the Chinese women having a sort of deformation.
