Hey Beautiful People!

One of the most exciting beauty innovations of the last few years is the gel manicures; they last for two solid weeks without chipping. Besides, they don’t require any dry time.

The disturbing thing is the fact that after you’ve had some disastrous experiences with  the salon in your gel manicures, you find your nails in bad shapes.

Well, here are what your technician won’t tell you about them;

1.The UV exposure; The way gel manicures work is that the colour is painted on and then cured underneath a UV light. This process is repeated several times per hand. It’s what makes the polish ultimately so hard and long-lasting. So is it bad for your skin to have your hands under a UV light?  The UV light exposure you get from nail procedures is dangerous. If you use the UV dryers now and again, it may not add up to much.

It is recommended that you apply a water resistant sunscreen before you go for a treatment, to avoid any unnecessary exposure.  If your technician has to remove the prior gel manicure, fingers would be soaked in acetone for at least ten minutes.

2. Dry, brittle and cracked looking nails; This is what your nails look like when the gel polish comes offGetting the gel off requires ten minutes of soaking in acetone, or individually wrapping with foil. The gel is then scraped off after it softens. The condition of your nails become horrifying. Your technician could resort to filing it off, which could lead to weakened nails that keep breaking for weeks.Thus, the durability is definitely a plus.

It’s best to save gels for vacations or special occasions and  moisturize your nails and cuticles with Vitamin E oil constantly while you have gel on your nail so as to prevent your nails from becoming a total mess.
