So, Sunday was rainy and boring and a bit of a drag, My friend who was more bored than I was decided we should hit town. As the foodie’s that we are, we decided to try something different (after much ado). Seafood is something that we rarely do (since am not a seafood fan) but since My dear friend was craving Oysters we decided to look for a restaurant that served oysters and that’s how we came upon Ocean Basket Seafood Restaurant, a south african franchise which came in 2012 ( We must have passed by a gazillion times already). We found a 2014 review on Sisi Yemmie’s Blog, the verdict and the look of the meal gave us something to look forward to. So here’s our own review of the Ocean Basket Seafood Restaurant which is located at Tiamiyu Ali street Victoria Island (Really easy to locate).
Like I mentioned, I and My friend are both foodies and so this was another food adventure for us. When we got the the restaurant, we were ushered in by a guard who was so kind as to shade each of us with an umbrella (Typically expected). Once inside we were ushered to our seats by an attendant who goes by the name Prince.
He handed us Menu’s and was back after one minute. I choose to go for line fish and fries while my friend wanted their platter for 1 and garlic bread as a starter. He took our orders down and patiently answered our inquiries (we had a lot). Within seconds after prince (the attendant) walked away I changed my mind when I discovered their specials had Seafood pasta on the menu (better that than chips and lemon line fish). Of cause I had to change the order. After about 5 minutes prince came back along with dipping sauce and little buns that we could chew on while we waited.
Verdict On Service: 7/10
It wasn’t long after that he brought in our drinks, a strawberry Daiquiri for my friend and a chocolate milkshake for me (Yeah milk shake, and I call myself a foodies SMH *Smile*).
Verdict on Drinks:
Me: For me I would take Johnny rockets milkshake over theirs but this is not to say the milkshake wasn’t good, I would give it a 7/10.
Motun (My friend): This was the first non alcohol strawberry Daiquiri she has had and she thought it was okay, which makes it a 6/10
The meal finally arrived after a while probably between 10-15 minutes, the Food platter for 1 contained Moussels, Calamari, Line fish, Prince Prawns, Frys, Lime Sauce and a slice of lime (there’s another piece but can’t seem to remember the name). The Seafood pasta was colorful and it looked delicious, it had a mix of seafood but one stood out, Prawns. The garlic bread came a little later while we were munching down.
Motun Verdict: She taught the food was tasty since she made sure to finish her platter, I thought it was nice too (we both has a taste of each others plate). Score 6/10
My Verdict: I thought my pasta was really tasty, it was moist and smooth so I give it a 7/10.
Side Note: The chef took time out to ask for our verdict, we liked everything else except for the line fish which we thought was a bit salty,
So whats my overall verdict, I give the restaurant a 7/10 and yes I would go there again just to try out other interesting meals they have on their menu.
Affordability: The entire meal cost 12,000.
